A good kitchen isn’t complete until you have a brand new set of good cookware to go along with it. Given that gas stoves are becoming more popular these days (or rather, experiencing a resurgence in popularity), we figured that it would be a good idea to do an article reviewing some of the best sets of cookware for gas stoves that you can currently buy on Amazon.
We have tried to include a pretty wide set of cookware and do some pretty in-depth reviews on each set. As an additional bonus, we have included a buying guide to go along with our reviews where we will talk about what you need to know in order to buy good cookware on your own.
If you want to know which option we would pick as the best overall, get the Calphalon Premier Pots and Pans Set.
A Spotlight On Some of The Best Cookware for Gas Stoves 2021:
T-fal Ultimate Hard Nonstick Cookware Set
There are quite a few names that pop up a lot when it comes to cookware because of how reliable their cookware is and how well-made it is.
One of those brands is definitely T-fal. You have no doubt seen their cookware being advertised both online and in basically any store that sells kitchen items. In our view, it just wouldn’t be a best cookware list without reviewing at least one option from T-fal. The cookware set of theirs that we want to take a look at to begin our list is the T-fal Ultimate Hard Nonstick Cookware Set.
In terms of overall design and utility, these are quite good pieces of cookware. We haven’t gotten to our buying guide yet, so some of you may still be curious why that is. Well, this cookware offers a great example of what one should be looking for in a good cookware set. To begin, it is made from hard, anodized aluminum. It also has a wide, flat design to further encourage even heating.
Of course, we can’t review a T-fal cookware set without mentioning their signature temperature ring. This is located on their pans and what it does is glow red when the optimal temperature for cooking has been reached. It isn’t an essential feature, but it is something that is only found on T-fal products, and it is a major reason why they stand out as a manufacturer.
The two biggest problems that we have encountered with this cookware set are as follows. To start, it seems like the cookware set has a bit of a size problem. The cookware in the T-fal set just seems undersized in general. We aren’t just referring to any specific piece in the set either, the entire set is on the smaller side.
Now, this doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing, as we could imagine many of you seeing this as a positive, especially if you live in a smaller area or if you live alone (and therefore you cook smaller meals), but those of you who are looking for something a bit bigger (say because you have a big family to cook for), then this set might end up being a bit disappointing.
The other issue that we want to mention is a bit of a smaller issue, but still one that can end up being quite annoying, and it has to do with the lack of lids for the frying pans in this set.
- Flat bottomed design.
- Wide base.
- Hard, anodized aluminum construction.
- T-fal’s signature heating ring.
- Lack of lids holds the set back.
- Cookware set is on the smaller side.
Cuisinart Multiclad Pro 12 Piece Cookware Set
In the last review we talked about big named brands that you often associate with cookware, with the first one being T-fal. In this next product review, we are going to be taking a look at the other big named brand that you should be aware of when buying cookware, which is Cuisinart.
Once again, we don’t think that it is necessary to introduce this brand too much as much like T-fal, they are found just about everywhere that traditional cookware is sold, so you have almost certainly heard of them before (and there is probably a good chance that you have owned some of their products before, cookware or otherwise).
Once again, it was difficult to pick a single cookware set to review because they have many available to pick from, but the one that we ultimately settled on was the Cuisinart Multiclad Pro 12 Piece Cookware Set.
While the majority of this cookware is made from stainless steel, which, contrary to what you might think, isn’t a good conductor of heat, it maintains a solid aluminum base. That aluminum base is what allows the cookware to heat up well and avoid the formation of “hot spots,” which are something that we will talk about later on during our buying guide (we will say that they are something that you want to avoid).
Another great aspect of this cookware is its polished surface. While this doesn’t have any actual impact on how the Cuisinart cookware performs, it does do two important things.
Firstly, it helps to give the cookware an extremely sleek look. Secondly, the polished surface is a lot less likely to warp, scratch, or anything like that. So, the cookware ends up being a lot more durable overall.
Because of how heavy duty this cookware set is, we want to warn you that it is quite heavy. While the weight of your cookware doesn’t matter too much, it is something that you want to consider because heavier cookware can be a bit too unwieldy to use and it can also cause some issues when trying to find places to store the cookware.
- Durable stainless steel exterior.
- Polished steel doesn’t warp or discolor easily.
- Sleek look and design.
- Aluminum core ensures consistent heating.
- Very heavy cookware.
MICHELANGELO Stone Cookware Set
For this next review on our best cookware for gas stoves list, we are going to be taking a look at what is undoubtedly the most unique set of cookware that we are going to be reviewing in this article. The cookware set that we are referring to is the MICHELANGELO Stone Cookware Set.
The name alone basically gives away why this particular option is notable. It isn’t all that common in kitchens, but believe it or not, things like stone and granite are actually fairly common materials to use in cookware because they have special advantages that other coatings don’t. So, we wanted to make sure that we fit in at least one option like that.
What makes this cookware set unique and why you might want to give it a try is the fact that the stone coating actually has natural nonstick qualities to it. What does that mean? Well, it means that it doesn’t rely on a chemical like Teflon to create a nonstick surface, the material itself helps to stop food from sticking.
Aside from the stone coating, this isn’t a particularly unique set of cookware. It is well-made but it also doesn’t particularly standout. You shouldn’t have any real complaints with the cookware set, which is all one can really ask for given the price.
One thing that we do want to caution you about is how likely this cookware set is to scratch. While one would assume that stone is extremely strong and able to easily resistant any sort of physical damage, the stone coating on this cookware ends up being somewhat more vulnerable than we would like.
You may be curious why we still wanted to include the MICHELANGELO Stone Cookware Set on our list in spite of this? Well, the way that we look at it, as long as you are careful with your cookware, the scratching shouldn’t be much of an issue, so it doesn’t end up being too big of a deal.
- Natural nonstick qualities to it.
- Unique stone coating.
- Not too pricey.
- Overall decent design and functionality.
- Stone surface does seem to scratch more than we would like.
Ninja Foodi NeverStick Cookware Set
Many of you no doubt know that nonstick cookware is quite popular and for good reason. However, none of the options on our list so far have had a nonstick coating. Since we know that these are popular, we decided to review at least one set of cookware that has a nonstick coating. The cookware set that we will be reviewing next is the Ninja Foodi NeverStick Cookware Set.
While one has to be aware of the fact that nonstick coatings do always wear out eventually, this is a very good set of cookware overall. The nonstick coating on the pans is among the best that you are going to find currently on the market, in fact, it is so good that the coating is actually able to be put in the oven and exposed to temperatures in excess of 500 degrees Fahrenheit. It has a good, heat conducting aluminum base that prevents annoying hot spots from forming.
- Very heat resistant nonstick coating.
- Oven safe up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Solid aluminum base and stainless steel sides on cookware.
- Nonstick coating will eventually start to wear out.
Calphalon Premier Pots and Pans Set
We have decided to save the highest end cookware set for last by looking at a very professional, well-made cookware set from Cepahlon. This is actually from their professional series and you can tell that by looking at both the quality of the cookware and the price that they are charging for it. We want to be honest straight out of the gate and say that this is the priciest cookware set that we are going to be reviewing as part of this product list.
If you are looking for something that is even remotely budget friendly, then this is not the option for you. On the other hand, those of you looking for a high-quality cookware set and who don’t have a budget that they need to stick to you will want to consider this for sure because it easily one of the best cookware sets that money can buy.
What really impresses us about the cookware is how durable it is. So often it seems like you invest in cookware that just doesn’t last; it works well for a bit but then it degrades very quickly.
We are really happy to say that this doesn’t end up being the case with this Cephalon cookware set. The ability of this cookware to last and to stand up to damage is impressive and it also helps to soften the blow of the high price of this cookware set.
Aside from its durability, this set also has two other things worth noting going for it. The first is just its general design, which is fantastic and includes all the things that you want to see in high-end cookware at this level (it is all very flat, made from heat conducting material, etc.).
The second is the fact that it is very large and comes with plenty of diverse pieces in the set; this is a great option for outfitting a brand new kitchen that has no existing cookware.
- A cookware set that lasts.
- Large set that comes with lots of useful pieces.
- Amazing conduction abilities.
- The most expensive set of cookware that we have reviewed.
Best Cookware for Gas Stoves: The Buying Guide
In the next part of this article, we are going to be talking about cookware in general. We want to go over what you need to know in order to buy a very effective set all on your own.
Some of you may be tempted to skip this buying guide, after all, buying cookware isn’t exactly difficult, so why bother with a guide? Well, the way that we see it, while buying good cookware isn’t difficult in of itself, there are a lot of small factors that should influence your decision making that a lot of people just don’t know about.
That is ultimately the purpose of this buying guide, to go over those little things that are important to know for buying cookware, but that many people may not be aware of.
In general, we will say that buying cookware for a gas stove is great because it is much easier than buying for basically any other type of stovetop. See, unlike electric cooktops or induction cooktops, you can use basically any type of cookware with gas stoves and it will work fine.
Want modern aluminum cookware? You can use that. Want classic style cast iron? You can also use that. Sadly, both electric and induction stovetops are a lot more finicky.
The Importance Of A Wide, Flat Bottom
Without a doubt the most important thing that you need to know when it comes to buying effective cookware (for gas stoves or any other type of stove) is that it absolutely has to have a wide, flat bottom.
This is basically non-negotiable in our view. Cookware that isn’t extremely flat and that doesn’t have a wide base simply won’t heat evenly, which can and will cause things called “hotspots” to form in your cookware. Hotspots are uneven points of heat in cookware and they are annoying specifically because they cause your food (especially delicate food like eggs and fish) to burn. So, getting cookware that avoids hotspots is essential. A wide, flat bottom on the cookware ensures that the gas heat is distributed evenly.
Can The Cookware Be Transferred To The Oven?
Something else that is important for you to consider when buying any cookware is whether said cookware can be transferred to the oven or not. This isn’t something that is difficult to find, as basically all good cookware can be put in an oven.
The questions you need to ask are whether said cookware has a nonstick coating, as oven heat will destroy that coating and you also need to consider the actual heat resistance of the cookware. While most cookware is oven safe, not all of them are oven safe to the same degree. Some can withstand temperatures as high as 650 degrees Fahrenheit while others can only go up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
Anti-Scratching Surface Is Your Best Friend
If we had to pick a single feature that we would encourage everyone to get on their cookware, it would definitely have to be a non-scratching surface. Scratches can seriously ruin how a pan works, especially if it has a nonstick coating. Even little scratches that you can’t necessarily see all that well can ruin the heat distribution of the cookware. This leads to uneven cooking, and it also makes it harder to flip food without it breaking apart. So, anti-scratch cookware is essential.
